ever package you initially subscribe to, if the data uploaded
takes you over that original package, you will
automatically be upgraded, and invoiced for the difference.
Compression
All storage packages are for raw data and assume an average
compression of 2:1 (i.e our Standard 4,000mb (4gb) Package
allows a total 2,000 mb (2gb) of compressed data storage on
our servers).
Technical Support
Depositit include Free Of Charge comprehensive support
files, FAQ's and an Interactive Training System (CBT) that
will effectively guide all subscribers through every element
of the service.
In order to help our customers keep costs to a minimum, the

application onto your new machine (this can be done from the
LOGIN area on our website), put in your password and username,
and once installed follow the 'restore' procedures as before.
Comprehensive on-line support is freely available on our
website via our FAQ's and CBT.
Q: Can my data be infected with a virus whilst stored on
your servers?
A: No. Data files uploaded and stored on our servers are
never opened (Depositit do not have access to any of our
customer's data due to the high level of security and
encryption used); hence there is no chance of a virus being
released and affecting other data.
Q: Can you (Depositit) access/read my data?
A: NO, Depositit (nor anyone else) can access or see your data.
Depositit encrypts your data before transmitting it to our
storage facilities and once there it is further encrypted to
448-bit level (using Blowfish Technology). Only you have the
encryption "key" to access and view your data. This key is the
password you select at the time of registration, so it is important
that you keep this safe. Your data cannot be viewed, decrypted, or
used in any way without your encryption key/password.
Q: Can I ring up for Technical Support?
A: Yes. In order to keep our customer's costs to a minimum
we have included on our website, Free Of Charge comprehensive
support pages, FAQ's and an Interactive Training System. If
customers wish to ring or e-mail our Technical Support
Department for Live assistance we would advise they subscribe
for this at the time of registration.
Live Technical Support costs just £12.50 + vat at the point
of registration and is £17.50 + vat at all other times.
Q: Is data encrypted whilst it is being transferred over the Internet?
A: Yes. Your data is encrypted before leaving your computer
and further encrypted once it arrives on our servers. We
use 448-bit blowfish encryption.
Q: What is Delta Blocking Technology?
A: Delta Blocking offers very effective incremental backup
technology, allowing Depositit to back up just the changes
made to any files since the last backup. This helps to
reduce bandwidth and minimises data transfer times.
Q: What Internet connection is required?
A: Depositit will back up your data over any type of
connection (dial up 56k modem, ADSL, Cable, LAN), though the
faster the better.
Q: How long will backups take?
A: This depends on how much data you wish to backup and over
which connection this will be carried out. The initial
upload will always take the most time, whereas subsequent
backups should take just a few minutes. If required, the
initial backup can be carried out in stages, utilising the
'Pause' button on the application. The following link will
allow you to calculate approximately how long a backup might
take http://www.bandwidth.com/tools/fileTimeCalc
Q: What happens if I go over my storage limit?
A: Depositit simply increases your storage space to the
appropriate package, accommodating all growth requirements.
NOTE: When your account reaches between 85-95% of it's
storage limit, Depositit will notify you via email. You
then have a choice to reduce the amount of data you are
backing up, in order to remain within your storage band
or else if you require the extra storage capacity you
should do nothing, allowing the system to automatically
upgrade your account to the next level.
Q: Can I back up open files?
A: Depositit advises that all files should be closed prior
to backup. If a file is open during the backup process, the
backup will still perform though that file will be backed up
next time.
Q: What happens if my computer is turned off?
A: Depositit backs up data over your Internet connection and
will not be able to do this if your computer is switched
off. It is recommended to keep your PC switched on, though
Depositit will automatically try to carry out any missed
back ups upon you switching on your machine. You may also
perform a manual backup at any time by opening up the
Depositit application, highlighting the required backup
definition and clicking 'Backup Now'.
Q: What happens if I am not connected to the Internet when a
scheduled backup is set to occur (I.e if I use a 56k modem)?
A: If you are on a (56k) dial up modem, and you are not
connected at the scheduled time of backup, as long as your
computer is switched on, Depositit will automatically activate
your modem and dial up to make an Internet connection. Once
connected Depositit will upload any new or changed data and
then close down your connection when finished.
If you subscribe to ADSL/Broadband and have closed down the
connection. Depositit will upload your data the next time you
connect.
Q: What happens if I get disconnected whilst my data is
backing up?
A: Depositit will attempt three times to reconnect with your
Internet connection. If it is unable to you will receive a
backup unsuccessful e-mail highlighting that there was a
problem, and recommend you carry out the backup again.
Q: What is the Login area on your website for?
A: The Login area (www.depositit.com/login.shtml) is an
administration area which allows customers to easily carry
out the following:
1. Change their contact details
2. Request a new password
3. Upgrade to Live Technical Support (if not taken at the
time of registration)
4. Update their payment details (change credit/debit card etc)
5. Download the Depositit software again (onto a second computer
if required or if PC has been stolen/corrupted they can
download the software from here to set up their account
again and restore data)
Q: What if I have 2 or more PC's to backup or a PC and a
laptop that I wish to backup, do I need to buy accounts or
licences for each machine?
A: Depositit operates a 'storage based' model. So once you
have subscribed for a Depositit account, you may install the
software onto your other machines. You will simply pay for
the storage you use - rather than for every machine.
NOTE: If you do install the Depositit software onto multiple
machines, please ensure that the backups are scheduled to
run at difference times, and that all definitions have been
named differently.
